Tony Bennett Previews Amy Winehouse Duet

Amy Winehouse’s final recording turned out to be a collaboration with Tony Bennett on the classic song “Body & Soul” for his upcoming album, Duets II.

“Body & Soul” drops Wednesday with the full album - also featuring Lady Gaga, Aretha Franklin and Carrie Underwood - set for release this Friday.

Bennett recently spoke about recording with the late Amy Winehouse, who he saw as a kindred spirit carrying on an endangered musical legacy ...

Amy admitted she was nervous, but still seemed at ease working with one of her idols in Bennett, 85, on one of her dad Mitch’s favorite songs.

The feeling of admiration was mutual.

“What I love about Amy Winehouse is that, of all the singers since the Beatles, automatically you check everyone out who’s a lot younger, but there’s been such a big walk away from jazz,” Bennett told EW recently.

“Some people think that anyone could sing jazz, but they can’t. It’s a gift of learning how to syncopate but it’s also a spirit that you’re either born with or you’re not. And Amy was born with that spirit,” Bennett said.

Winehouse died in July at age 27, having battled drug and alcohol addiction for years. Her father says a detox seizure killed her, but an official cause of death has yet to be determined. Regardless, we lost one of the greats.
