DETROIT (WWJ) ? Michigan?s senior U.S. Senator says he is supportive of an expected decision from President Barack Obama to begin a draw down of U.S. troops from Afghanistan ? as early as next month.
Michigan Senator Carl Levin ? Chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee,?says he?s in support of the troop withdrawal from Afghanistan.
?The Afghan Army has been growing, it?s ahead of its goals, they?re willing to fight. What there is a shortage of is logistics, intelligence and that kind of supporting groups. But it needs to be done because we can not be there in an open-ended position,? said Levin.
Levin is recommending a drawn down of 15,000 troops by the end of 2011.? Currently, the U.S. has over 100,000 troops in Afghanistan.
