I had to work late last night and I did something that made me a little proud: I successfully avoided human contact and (most) technology for 4 hours while my TiVo at home recorded Game 6 of the Stanley Cup between the Los Angeles Kings and the New Jersey Devils.
It?s surprisingly difficult to temporarily disconnect when you?re ?connected? like I am. I had my iPhone on and willingly continued to receive normal push notifications via ESPN, Facebook, Twitter and text messages. I would glance at my phone when I would receive a text message, fearing there would be a list of sports updates on the lock screen as well.
I got home without my wife or anyone telling me the outcome, unlike Seinfeld, and watched (teared up slightly) the L.A. Kings win the Stanley Cup for the first time in franchise history.
During the game, I noticed some awesome moments of fatherhood.
Marty Brodeur kisses the names of his children on the back of his helmet before each game. His four smooches go out to William, Jeremy, Annabelle, and Maxime.

L.A. King?s Colin Fraser, holds his 20-month-old son, Calder, after winning the Stanley Cup. The Fraser family had a scare back in May when Calder was hospitalized as the Kings were in Glendale, Arizona. Colin immediately returned to his summer home in Sylvan Lake, Alberta, to be with his family, and missed Games 2 and 3 of the Western Conference Finals.
?At first, I didn?t know what to do and I said, ?Forget it, I?m going home,?? Fraser said. ?Obviously, I want to play and I want to be here and this is obviously something special. But at the end of the day, family comes first, and family is 100 percent, No.1. Hockey is going to come and go, but my family I?ll have forever, so it was a no-brainer for me.?
Justin Williams was interviewed holding his one year-old daughter. He later attempted to sooth her crying by letting her sit in the Cup.
Jonathan Quick and daughter, Madison, shared a moment in the locker room after the win (photo grab from @cjzero). Quick and Madison also shared an extremely cute moment at the press conference where she uninhibitedly paraded around reporters with a small championship flag. Even Sutter got in on the action via a Grandfather-esque moment where he encouraged her to come up and join her 25-year-old daddy on his lap.
8-bit props to the L.A. Kings for bringing the Cup home and even BIGGER 8-bit props for being awesome hockey dads. These guys don?t get paid much compared to other sports and they battle it out hardcore on ice for custody of one of the coolest trophies ever. Congrats, Kings!
